When Do You Know You Are A Real New Yorker?

Be considered a New Yorker should be an honor to anybody in the Earth. They usually say: if you were not born in New York City but live here more than 10 years riding the subways, talking to people, taking yellow cabs and meeting lovers, you already a part of the tribe.

I still remember like it was today when I first moved to New York from Brazil, It was so scary and attractive at the same time. How many times I took the subway downtown when I really wanted to go uptown, I had to figure out the subway map in a time when google maps didn’t exist. Learn all the tricks about living in the concrete jungle can be quite a challenge and it takes time. It definitely was the biggest adventure of my life and I don’t regret a single moment of learning, experiencing the New York lifestyle that you cannot possibly find anywhere in the World, except here.

Obviously, as a Cool Girl, I would need a proper cool look for each day I walk the streets of New York. And for this day, I picked a white studded faux leather moto jacket paired with black skinny jeans, ankle boots, layered necklace, and a Wayfare RayBan sunglasses to complete the look. If you are around at this time of the year make sure to take advantage of the great sales happening around the city.

But when exactly do you know you are a real New Yorker? The time I really feel considered a New Yorker it is when people ask me questions in the streets, and it can happen more often that I would expect. I am a very fast walker, always in the rush, which I would call a very common habit for people living in the city, and I usually have my headphones on, listening to my favorite tunes. Even though, this wouldn’t stop people of talking to me; maybe they think I have a friendly face and won’t turn them down, or They just feel comfortable in asking information to somebody that probably might have the right answer for them. So, in case one day you see me walking in the streets of New York and need directions, don’t hesitate in asking me, certainly, I will be ready to answer!

Some people get tired of living under New York pressure, it can be aggressive and very charming too, but despite all of that The Real New Yorkers will always carry “New York City” in their hearts wherever they go.
